Amy Kappel, LCPC, NCC
Clinical Director, EMDR Therapist
Idaho Counseling Association's Counselor of the Year 2018-2019
Aura Counseling and Wellness was inspired by the owner, Amy Kappel, in the hopes that she could develop a welcoming and trusting counseling agency whose foundation was built on helping individuals and families rather than on public relations or corporate policy.
Amy Kappel is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and has worked in the Nampa/ Boise area for more than 8 years as a counselor. She specializes in Substance Use Disorders and Trauma/ PTSD issues and how those issues impact individuals and families as a whole. Amy enjoys working with adolescents, adults, couples and families and uses multiple forms of therapy including: EMDR Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral, Trauma Focused, Guided Meditation/ Hypnosis, as well as several other evidenced based methods. She was born and raised in Eastern Idaho so she understands the values and needs of Idahoans. Amy attended Boise State University for her Master of Arts in Counseling degree and graduated with the highest honors.
After working for agencies for several years, Amy decided that being able to specialize and manage her clinical goals to help others was more important than how much she earned. Amy chose to continue to pursue her goal of helping others to conquer their mental health and substance use challenges. She often reminds herself (and others) that it's about progress and not perfection!
Amy is also a member of the American Counseling Association, Idaho Counseling Association, National Board for Certified Counselors, a member of the Canyon County Children's Behavioral Health Board, she is trained in EMDR therapy & Hypnosis, and she is Clinical Supervisor registered with IBOL & IBADCC.
Valerie Platt, LPC, NCC
Valerie is a Licensed Professional Counselor that graduated from Boise State University with her Master’s Degree in Counseling and specialized in Addiction Treatment and Disorders. Valerie is recognized as a National Certified Counselor with the National Board of Certified Counselors. Her strong desire to help others and set them on the path for individualized success can be seen on daily basis within our office.
Valerie’s main area of focus is substance use disorders, though she believes mental health and substance use often go hand-in-hand, so she focuses on working with others through integrated Co-Occurring therapy. Valerie’s aim is to help clients develop a stronger, healthier sense of self while focusing on a person’s individual life and goals.
Valerie has been living in Idaho for nearly 7 years and considers it to be home. She enjoys the open space Idaho offers; as well as the hot springs, lakes, and camping areas. Valerie has 3 dogs and even though she says her house is at capacity for pets – we are waiting to see what type of furry friend joins her family next.
